You might not be aware of the very tough line that a non-profit has to walk when it comes to politics. And it is because of that line that it is better to say "No politics" than to take the time and effort to make sure every candidate is given roughly the same equal treatment. That time and effort can be used towards the kids and the school.
I understand that you may have the best intentions at heart but it violated the IRS rules against election involvement. If you are interested in learning more, here is a link.
